The Harvard College Writing Program is the oldest in the United States. Since 1872, when the program was founded, a course in expository writing has been the one academic experience required of every Harvard student. We welcome you to "Expos," a Harvard tradition.

The College is in the process of implementing Writing Intensive courses, and the Standing Committee on Writing and Speaking has developed these guidelines for them.
All incoming Harvard Freshmen are required to take Expos 20, but few students and instructors realize that Harvard offers many more writing resources for both teachers and students, beyond freshman year Expos. The Writing and Speaking Resource Website enumerates and describes these resources, and provides direct links to their web sites.
The Harvard Writing Project is pleased to announce the publication of four new writing guides for students: How To Do Things With Pictures: A Guide to Writing in Art History; Writing for Psychology: A Guide for Psychology Concentrators; A Guide to Writing a Senior Thesis in History and Literature; and A Guide to Writing a Senior Thesis in Government. These writing guides are available in PDF form in the Publications for Students section of the site.
